The Let's Eat Out! Guide was started in 2002 by a collaborative of health-related groups in Athens. It is meant to serve as a comprehensive guide to Athens-Clarke County restaurants.    The second edition (on which this site was initially based) was published in September 2002. Printed editions of the guide will be produced twice each year. This website serves as a companion to the printed guide.

On July 1, 2005 the Georgia Smoke Free Air Act took effect, prohibiting smoking in most workplaces and in places that admit those under the age of 18 - including restaurants in the state of Georgia..

On the heels of the state ban, on August 1, 2005 the revised Athens-Clarke County smoking ordinance took effect, prohibiting smoking in workplaces, bars and restaurants at all times. Smoking is allowed in outdoor areas. To report violations, call 706-613-3345.

The newest printed guide should be available in September, 2005, and will contain all restaurants in Athens-Clarke, Oconee, Madison and Oglethorpe counties.

The restaurants are presently sorted by health scores. These health scores are provided by the Public Health division in charge of health inspections. Some eating establishments do not fall under the jurisdiction of Public Health such as bakeries and, therefore, will not include health scores and are included at the bottom of the list.

All restaurants are now included; if an establishment did not complete a questionnaire, the listing will be simply the restaurant name, address and phone number.

Cuisine types are arbitrary classifications created by the LEO Guide and do not reflect any official or even unofficial government categorizing. The LEO Guide reserves the right to categorize any and all restaurants without permission of the businesses.

All other information is provided by the restaurants and not the responsibility of the LEO Guide.
